Bokken made of hard plastic
Bokken sword approximately 100cm long, for martial arts Aikido, Iaido, Kendo, Bokuto.
Although the word Bokken is widely used outside Japan to refer to the wooden sword used in martial arts, in reality in Japanese the more correct term is Bokutō (lit. "wooden katana"). Exactly as happens with the term Samurai which is commonly used outside Japan but to which Japanese generally prefer the term Bushi.
The term Bokken, from the Japanese point of view, refers in fact to a generic sword of any shape, not necessarily similar to the katana; compared to bokutō, the term bokken is therefore more generic as it could refer to both a katana and any other type of sword.
Finally, depending on the school, the bokutō can take on different shapes and sizes; for example the Niten Ichiryu uses thin wooden swords, with very little curvature and without tsuba.
It is mainly used in martial arts training which involve the use of the sword: in Kendō, in particular, it is used for the execution of the ten kata.
IAIDO: belongs to the disciplines of traditional Japanese Budo such as Kendo, Jodo and Naginata.
AIKIDO: Japanese martial art practiced both with bare hands and with the traditional white weapons of Japanese Budō, mainly: "ken" (sword), "jō" (stick) and "tantō" (dagger).
KOBUDO: refers in general to the traditional martial arts in use on the island of Okinawa and is characterized by the use of a large number of traditional weapons, mostly of peasant origin.
KENDO: Japanese martial art, i.e. a form of budō and a combat sport that derives from the evolution of fighting techniques with the katana.
